2008 (and with it an end to the Bush regime) can’t come to an end quick enough. The President’s most recent verbal gaffe has offended many Roman Catholics, clergy and laymen alike.
President Bush (or can call him Governor, Georgy, or GWB) said to Pope Benedict XVI, “Your eminence, you’re looking good” (story here). “Your eminence” is a greeting worthy of a Cardinal but not a Pope. When addressing the Pope, proper etiquette calls for “Your Holiness” or “Most Holy Father.” W might just as well have said “Yo’dude, you’re looking righteous!”
But at least POTUS is trying. It’s better than addressing the Pope in the way that he has in the past, “His Holy Father.” WTF?
