Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan has recently released a book, What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception, that alleges many wrongdoings by the Bush administration, including the use of propaganda to persuade Americans he is right. For those with half-a-brain, McClellan’s allegations are not news at all.
The White House has called McClellan a “disgruntled” former employee.
Perhaps the best comment came from former White House advisor and the propaganda machinist himself Karl Rove. Rove said in an interview on Fox News Channel, “If [McClellan] had these moral qualms, he should have spoken up about them. I don’t remember him speaking up about these things.” So, by modus tollens, we can conclude from Rove’s comments that McClellan didn’t have these “moral qualms.”
Deductively valid but certainly an incoherent nonsequitur.
